Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for crucial discussions with General Keith Kellogg, a representative of US President Donald Trump, with a focus on Ukraine’s ongoing cooperation with the US. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue in these talks, underscoring the shared goal for lasting peace and security, which he hopes to achieve in collaboration with both the US and Europe.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy shared updates on his preparations, stating, “A lot of meetings and briefings—military command, intelligence, ministers—are underway in preparation for talks with President Trump’s representative, General Kellogg, who is already in Kyiv.” He continued, “Our meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, and it is essential that this discussion, as well as our overall cooperation with the US, remains productive. With America and Europe together, peace can be more secure, and that is our goal. However, most importantly, this goal must be shared by our partners, not just us.”
The announcement comes as Zelenskyy faces continued criticism from President Trump, who recently questioned the US’s financial commitment to Ukraine. Trump accused Zelenskyy of convincing the United States to invest billions in a war he believes cannot be won, noting that the US has spent $200 billion more than Europe, with no returns. Trump also criticized the lack of equal financial contributions from Europe and labeled Zelenskyy a “dictator without elections,” pointing to his refusal to hold elections in Ukraine and the alleged misuse of funds.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion dollars on a war that couldn’t be won, that never needed to start. Without the US and ‘TRUMP,’ Zelenskyy will never be able to settle this war.” Trump further added, “The United States has spent $200 billion more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the US gets nothing back. Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand equal contributions? This war is more important to Europe than to us, with a big, beautiful ocean between us.”
Trump also referenced Zelenskyy’s admission that half of the US funds sent to Ukraine were unaccounted for and accused him of failing to conduct elections, citing his low popularity in Ukrainian polls. Trump’s comments painted a grim picture for Zelenskyy, urging him to act quickly or risk losing control of the country.
Meanwhile, Trump expressed his belief that Russia is eager to end the war, noting the high toll on soldiers from all sides, including Ukrainians, Russians, and North Koreans. He called the war “senseless” and stressed that under his leadership, it would never have happened. Trump also shared his optimism about ongoing talks between US officials and Russian representatives, stating that he was “much more confident” following positive discussions.
