US President Donald Trump addressed GOP members of Congress in Miami, Florida, where he humorously questioned whether he could run for the presidency in 2028. In a speech filled with optimism, Trump highlighted his fundraising efforts for the next presidential race, though he joked about whether he could use the funds for himself.
“I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race, which I assume I can’t use for myself. But I’m not entirely sure because I think I might not be allowed to run again. Am I allowed to run again?” Trump quipped.
However, under the 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution, Trump is ineligible to seek a third term, and any attempt to bypass this restriction would likely be rejected by courts and election authorities.
Trump went on to congratulate the reelected Republican House majority, citing the party’s historic success in swing states such as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Georgia. He noted that, for the first time, the GOP had gained ground in all 50 states, with record support from African-American and Hispanic voters, including 39 percent of black men.
Reflecting on his election victories, Trump declared that his administration had surpassed former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s First New Deal, a series of programs introduced during Roosevelt’s early years in office aimed at economic recovery and reform. Trump claimed that his success had “shattered” Roosevelt’s New Deal coalition, which had dominated American politics for over a century.
Trump also emphasized that under his leadership, the Republican Party had become the voice of all American citizens, regardless of race or background. “We have become the party of the American Dream, wealth creation, not just for the rich,” he said. “If we do our job over the next 21 months, not only will we reelect House Republicans and expand our majority in 2026, but we will solidify a national governing coalition that will preserve American freedom for generations.”
Finally, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the overwhelming support he has received, saying, “There has never been anything like what’s happening in politics these past few years. Everybody seems to be with us.”
