On Saturday, the United States military carried out airstrikes targeting ISIS terrorists in the Golis mountain region of Somalia, resulting in the deaths of several operatives. The airstrikes were conducted under orders from President Donald Trump.
In a statement on social media, President Trump confirmed the strikes, stating that they were aimed at a senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists who were found hiding in caves. “These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they lived in, and killed many terrorists without harming civilians,” Trump wrote.
Trump also took the opportunity to criticize former President Joe Biden for his delayed response to ISIS terrorists. “Our military has targeted this ISIS attack planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that We WILL FIND You, AND We WILL KILL You,” he added.
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegesth stated that the airstrikes had weakened ISIS’s ability to plan and carry out attacks against U.S. citizens, allies, and innocent civilians. He emphasized that the US remains ready to eliminate any terrorists posing a threat to national security.
Trump has previously warned ISIS and other terrorist groups, but he has also expressed a desire for the US to step back from conflicts in the Middle East, including Syria. “We’re not involved in Syria. Syria’s its own mess. They’ve got enough messes over there. They don’t need us involved in everyone,” he said during a briefing on Thursday.
