The United States military continues its operations against Houthi forces in Yemen, with US Central Command (CENTCOM) sharing footage of military aircraft taking off for strikes against Iran-backed militants.
According to The Hill, US airstrikes have killed at least 53 people, including five women and two children, and injured around 100 others, as reported by the Houthi-run Health Ministry. The strikes targeted multiple locations, including Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and Saada, the group’s stronghold near the Saudi border. In response, the Houthis have vowed to “meet escalation with escalation.”
On March 15, US President Donald Trump announced he had ordered “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthis. Trump accused the group of conducting continued attacks on American assets due to what he described as former President Joe Biden’s “weak” response.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said, “The Houthis have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other, ships, aircraft, and drones.” He further warned that US forces would continue using “overwhelming lethal force” until the objective of securing international waterways was achieved.
Trump also directly addressed Iran, demanding an immediate halt to its support for the Houthis. He warned that any further threats against the US or international shipping lanes would lead to severe consequences.
Since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, Houthi forces have launched repeated assaults on vessels in the Red Sea, significantly disrupting global trade.
