US Intelligence Chief Tulsi Gabbard Hopes to Strengthen India-US Friendship Following Meeting with PM Modi

US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard expressed her honor in welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the United States, stating her anticipation to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. In a post on X, Gabbard wrote, “It was an honor to welcome India’s Prime Minister @narendramodi back to the United States, and look forward to continuing to strengthen the US-India friendship.”

Her remarks followed PM Modi’s visit to Washington, DC, where he met with Gabbard on Wednesday (local time). During the meeting, the two leaders discussed various aspects of the growing India-US partnership. The Prime Minister and Gabbard exchanged a handshake and a warm greeting, with PM Modi congratulating Gabbard on her confirmation as DNI. Modi also noted that Gabbard is a “strong votary” of fostering India-US relations.

PM Modi arrived in the US for a two-day visit at the invitation of President Donald Trump, marking his first trip to the country since Trump began his second term as president. Upon his arrival in Washington, DC, PM Modi was welcomed by India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and other officials.

In addition to his meeting with Gabbard, PM Modi held an important session with President Trump at the White House on Thursday, their first meeting since Trump’s second presidential term began in January 2025. The two leaders shared a warm embrace as they discussed matters of mutual interest.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed the media on PM Modi’s visit, revealing that the Prime Minister met several prominent figures, including Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Misri highlighted that the discussions at the White House spanned a variety of topics, such as strategic and security cooperation, defense, trade, economic relations, technology, energy security, and global concerns.

“The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the priority both leaders place on strengthening the India-US relationship,” said Misri. “The discussions were comprehensive, covering everything from defense and trade to regional and global issues.”

PM Modi is among the first world leaders to visit the US following Trump’s inauguration and was invited to the country within just three weeks of the new administration taking office.
