U.S. Calls for Calm as India Strikes Terror Targets in Pakistan Under Operation Sindoor

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that he is closely monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan following India’s precision missile strikes on multiple terror sites across the border as part of Operation Sindoor.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rubio stated, “I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo President Trump’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”

Rubio’s remarks came shortly after former President Donald Trump acknowledged the strikes, urging for de-escalation and a peaceful outcome. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump commented, “We just heard about it as we were walking through the doors of the Oval. I guess people knew something was going to happen based on a little bit of the past. They’ve been fighting for a long time… centuries, actually, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly.”

The U.S. State Department also issued a brief statement, with a spokesperson telling ANI, “We are aware of the reports, however we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments.”

The international responses follow India’s high-precision military operation targeting nine terrorist camps — four in Pakistan (including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot) and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation was in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.

India’s Ministry of Defence said the strikes were executed with “focused, measured and non-escalatory” intent, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted. The joint operation, carried out by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, used intelligence-driven targeting and advanced munitions to strike key infrastructure of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), both U.S.-designated terrorist organizations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the entire operation through the night, sources confirmed. Indian officials emphasized that the objective was to dismantle terror infrastructure and prevent future cross-border attacks, while avoiding broader military escalation.
