Trump Slams Netanyahu Trial as “Political Witch Hunt”, Urges Immediate Cancellation

Former US President Donald Trump on Saturday denounced the ongoing corruption trial against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling it a “political witch hunt” and demanding its immediate cancellation.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump expressed strong support for Netanyahu, who is currently facing three separate cases — known as Case 1000, 2000, and 4000 — involving allegations of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Netanyahu has denied all charges, dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated.

“It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu,” Trump wrote. “He is a war hero and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring great success in getting rid of the dangerous nuclear threat in Iran.”

Trump further argued that forcing Netanyahu to spend time in court while he is engaged in high-stakes negotiations with Hamas — particularly over a potential hostage deal — is not only unfair but also undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts.

“This travesty of ‘Justice’ will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations,” he added. “It is insanity doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu… LET BIBI GO, HE’S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!”

Netanyahu’s trial, which began in May 2020, is unprecedented in Israel’s history, marking the first time a sitting prime minister has stood trial for criminal charges. Under Israeli law, he is not required to resign unless convicted and the verdict is upheld by the Supreme Court.

Adding to his legal troubles, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity — including the targeting of civilians and the use of starvation as a weapon in Gaza.

Trump previously echoed similar sentiments earlier in the week, stating that the trial should be cancelled immediately and likening Netanyahu’s legal woes to his own. He described the charges — which reportedly include gifts such as cigars and a Bugs Bunny doll — as “trivial” and part of a politically motivated campaign to weaken the Israeli leader.

“We are not going to stand for this,” Trump declared, asserting that the United States, as Israel’s largest supporter, must ensure Netanyahu can continue his leadership without judicial interference.
