US President Donald Trump on Friday renewed his push for the swift passage of his sweeping legislative proposal—dubbed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill”—highlighting its provisions to modernise America’s air traffic control system, slash taxes, and strengthen national security.
Addressing the nation via a video message and posts on his social platform, Truth Social, Trump praised Senate Republicans for working through the weekend and urged the House of Representatives to send the bill to his desk before Independence Day.
“The great Republicans in the U.S. Senate are working all weekend to finish our ‘ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL’… We are on the verge of delivering massive general tax cuts, no tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security for seniors,” Trump said.
He stressed that the bill would not only reduce taxes but also include a significant overhaul of the nation’s aging air traffic control (ATC) infrastructure. “After years of decline, we are going to modernise this decrepit relic with the best, most advanced air traffic control system on Earth,” Trump said.
He described the current system as burdened with “deteriorating hardware and ancient software,” and promised that the legislation would bring 21st-century tools, enhance runway safety, and establish new ATC centers—the first in over 50 years.
The bill, however, faces challenges in the Senate. A key provision capping healthcare provider taxes, aimed at reducing Medicaid costs, was struck down by Senate parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough for violating the Byrd Rule, which governs budget reconciliation procedures.
Despite the setback, Senate Republicans, led by Majority Leader John Thune, remain optimistic. “We have contingency plans—plan B, plan C,” Thune told reporters, indicating alternate strategies to preserve the bill’s momentum.
Senator Josh Hawley and others have expressed concern that proposed caps could endanger rural hospitals. “We have no idea what’s going to happen here,” Hawley said. “Hopefully, their fix will involve protecting rural hospitals.”
Trump concluded his message by calling the bill a symbol of American progress and pride. “Let’s make it a July 4th celebration to remember. We’re going to take care of air traffic control—and so much more.”
The bill, if passed, would represent a major legislative win for Trump as he eyes a second term, bundling together tax reforms, infrastructure upgrades, and defense investments.
