Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam and subsequent Indian missile strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump has called for restraint and offered to assist in de-escalating the situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Expressing deep concern over the current hostilities, Trump stated on Wednesday (local time), “Oh, it’s so terrible! My position is I get along with both. I know both very well and I want to see them work it out. I want to see them stop, and hopefully they can stop now. They’ve gotten tit for tat, so hopefully they can stop now.”

Reiterating his willingness to help mediate, Trump added, “If I can do anything to help, I will—I will be there.”

Earlier in the day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also weighed in, saying the State Department is closely monitoring the situation. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Rubio echoed the President’s sentiments, writing, “I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo President Trump’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”

Responding to reports of the Indian military action, Trump commented, “We just heard about it as we were walking through the doors of the Oval. Just heard about it. I guess people knew something was going to happen… They’ve been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries, actually, if you think about it. I hope it ends very quickly.”

The U.S. State Department also acknowledged the developments, though it refrained from offering a detailed assessment. “We are aware of the reports, however, we have no assessment to offer at this time. This remains an evolving situation, and we are closely monitoring developments,” a spokesperson told ANI.

As tensions continue to simmer along the India-Pakistan border, Washington’s response signals a desire for stability in the region while affirming diplomatic ties with both nations.
