US President Donald Trump met with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Saturday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), reaffirming the strong alliance between their two nations. Trump also commended Duda for Poland’s commitment to increasing its defence budget.
The White House shared details of the meeting in a post on X, which read, “Backstage at CPAC, President Trump met with President Andrzej Duda of Poland and reaffirmed our close alliance. President Trump also praised President Duda for Poland’s dedication to increasing defence spending.”
Earlier on Friday, Duda spoke about a recent conversation he had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Duda emphasized that lasting peace in Ukraine could not be achieved without the support of the US and urged Zelenskyy to work closely with the United States. He said, “A few minutes ago, President Zelenskyy called me. We had a candid conversation following recent meetings with General Kellogg and other developments. I told him we believe that lasting peace in Ukraine can only be achieved with the support of the United States.”
Duda also expressed his confidence in Trump’s leadership and his commitment to global peace. “I believe President Trump is guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global peace and stability,” he said. “I advised President Zelenskyy to remain committed to calm and constructive cooperation with Donald Trump, as I trust goodwill and honesty underpin U.S. negotiation efforts.”
Earlier on Saturday, Trump called for an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging Presidents Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy to meet in order to stop the war. “President Putin and President Zelenskyy have to get together because we want to stop the war and stop killing millions of people. I want to see a ceasefire, and I want to get the deal done. While this doesn’t affect the US much, since we’re on the other side of the ocean, it does affect Europe,” he said.
