US President Donald Trump on Monday announced what he called a “complete and total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran, bringing an official end to the intense 12-day conflict that had threatened to engulf the Middle East in a wider war.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump stated that both nations had agreed to the ceasefire, which would begin within six hours and unfold in two stages, with Iran initiating the truce followed by Israel 12 hours later. Full cessation of hostilities is expected within 24 hours.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE… for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!” Trump wrote.
He emphasized that both parties had agreed to remain “peaceful and respectful” during the ceasefire intervals. “Upon the 24th Hour, an official end to the 12-Day War will be saluted by the world,” he added.
Praising both governments, Trump stated: “I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end what should be called ‘THE 12 DAY WAR.’ This is a war that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East—but it didn’t, and never will.”
He concluded with a sweeping message of hope: “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
The recent conflict erupted on June 13 when Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion,” a massive airstrike campaign targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched “Operation True Promise 3,” firing waves of missiles and drones at Israeli energy and defense infrastructure.
The situation further escalated when the US carried out “Operation Midnight Hammer,” striking key Iranian nuclear sites on Sunday morning. Iran responded with missile attacks on US bases in Qatar and Iraq, including Al Udeid Air Base—the largest US military installation in the region.
The announcement of the ceasefire marks the first major step toward calming a conflict that had drawn in multiple regional and global powers, with fears of wider war looming until the truce was brokered.
