In a show of solidarity following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, former US President Donald Trump held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Trump expressed deep condolences over the tragic loss of lives and extended full support to India in its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to a statement by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X, Trump “strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack,” adding that India and the United States “stand together in the fight against terror.”
The tragic attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of civilians including tourists, has sparked international outrage. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump further stated, “Deeply disturbing news out of Kashmir. The United States stands strong with India against Terrorism. We pray for the souls of those lost, and for the recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Modi and the incredible people of India have our full support and deepest sympathies.”
Support also poured in from other US officials. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed America’s stance, stating on X, “The United States stands with India.” His remarks were in response to a statement from the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, which condemned the attack and stressed the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable.
“The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Kashmir. Nothing can justify such a heinous act killing tourists and civilians. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones,” read the Bureau’s post.
US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz echoed the sentiment, calling the Pahalgam attack a “terrible tragedy” and urging people to “pray for the victims and their families.”
Meanwhile, in response to the attack, Indian authorities have stepped up security measures. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Tuesday, attended by officials from various agencies, including Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army. He later reached Srinagar for an on-ground review.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and other senior officials were also involved in the discussions. A large-scale search operation has been launched in the Baisaran area of Pahalgam, Anantnag, to track down those responsible for the attack.
The incident has reinforced the global consensus against terrorism, with India and the United States once again affirming their shared commitment to combating extremism.
