US President Donald Trump has confirmed that peace negotiations with Russia are underway and urged an immediate halt to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, expressing his discomfort over the continued violence and rising death toll.

Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “We are talking to Russia, we would like them to stop. I don’t like them bombing on and on, and every week thousands of young people being killed.” He emphasized that the US is pushing for a resolution to the war, which has entered a prolonged and deadly phase.

Trump’s comments come amid mounting international pressure for a ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently called for an unconditional end to hostilities, following missile strikes launched by Russia from the Black Sea. “A ceasefire at sea is not just about free navigation… it is, above all, about overall security and bringing peace closer,” Zelenskyy posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine had accepted the United States’ proposal for a full, unconditional 30-day ceasefire but said Russian President Vladimir Putin has refused to comply. “We are awaiting a response from the United States—and we also expect a response from all in Europe and around the world who truly want peace,” he added.

French President Emmanuel Macron echoed the urgency of the situation, reiterating the need for an immediate ceasefire. “These Russian strikes must end. There must be a ceasefire as soon as possible,” Macron said, warning that further inaction could embolden Russia to prolong the conflict.

Meanwhile, CNN reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had recently met with a Russian envoy and delivered a stern message to Moscow, stating that “the clock is ticking” for a breakthrough in peace talks.

With mounting casualties and growing international calls for peace, the spotlight is now on whether ongoing diplomatic efforts can bring an end to the devastating war.
