A tragic train derailment in southwestern Germany has left at least three people dead and several others injured, according to DW News. The incident occurred on Sunday near the town of Riedlingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg, with around 100 passengers reportedly on board at the time.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and rescue teams, rushed to the scene to assist in rescue operations. Baden-Württemberg’s State Interior Minister Thomas Strobl is reported to be heading to the site to oversee the situation.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his sorrow over the incident and said he is closely monitoring rescue efforts. “The train accident in the Biberach district shocks me. I am in close contact with the Interior Minister and the Transport Minister and have asked them to support the rescue forces with all available means,” Merz wrote on X, offering condolences to the families of the deceased.

The derailment took place in a rugged and forested area between Sigmaringen and Ulm. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known, and investigations are underway.
