‘Sadbhavna Iftar’ in Delhi Showcases India’s Spirit of Unity and Diversity

Representatives from multiple countries lauded India’s commitment to religious diversity and global cooperation.

The Indian Minorities Foundation hosted the ‘Sadbhavna Iftar’ in Delhi, bringing together diplomats from various nations to celebrate unity, inclusivity, and cultural exchange. Representatives from multiple countries lauded India’s commitment to religious diversity and global cooperation.

Mustapha Jawara, High Commissioner of Gambia to India, highlighted the significance of Iftar for the Muslim community. “Iftar is important to us as Muslims. It is a time when we break our fasts… We are very grateful for the ‘Sadbhavna Iftar’,” he said. Acknowledging India’s support during the pandemic, he added, “India donated a lot of vaccines to us during Covid, saving many lives. We are grateful to the Prime Minister and the government… PM Modi is the leader of the global south.”

Speaking at the event, Mohamed Ali Fazari, Counsellor at the Embassy of Sudan, praised India as a model of peaceful coexistence. “India always reflects diversity in religion, culture, and traditions, ensuring the peaceful coexistence of minorities,” he noted. Emphasizing the strong diplomatic ties between Sudan and India, he added, “Next October, we will celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between our countries. India has always maintained strong ties with African nations.”

Oday Hatim Mohammed, Counsellor at the Embassy of Iraq, commended India’s pluralism. “India is a multilingual, multireligious nation, which makes it stronger… All Indians are collectively working for ‘Viksit Bharat.’ India and Iraq share a deep relationship, and PM Modi is a visionary leader,” he stated.

Brenda, Second Secretary (Finance) from Zambia, underscored the role of Iftar in fostering cultural exchange. “Hosting the Iftar is a significant step for cultural interaction. Zambia and India share excellent bilateral ties, with Indian support contributing to infrastructure development in Zambia. PM Modi has played a crucial role in ensuring African nations have representation in the next G20, benefiting low-income countries as well.”

Co-founder of the Indian Minorities Foundation, Prof. Himani Sood, emphasized the event’s spirit of harmony. “During the auspicious month of Ramadan, ambassadors from various Muslim nations joined us to celebrate the vision of our Prime Minister—Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayaas. Today, people from across the world came together to celebrate harmony, communal spirit, and unity. Through Iftar, we embraced the joy and togetherness that Bharat is fostering globally,” she remarked.

The ‘Sadbhavna Iftar’ served as a testament to India’s rich cultural diversity and commitment to strengthening international relations through shared traditions and values.
