In a significant diplomatic engagement, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko met with Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to counter the “global terrorist threat” alongside India.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared the update on X, stating, “On April 28, Deputy FM Andrey #Rudenko met with India’s Ambassador @vkumar1969. Russia’s readiness to counter the global terrorist threat, together with India, was reaffirmed.”

During their meeting, the two officials discussed a range of bilateral issues, upcoming political engagements, and the broader security situation in South Asia. A major focus was the escalation of tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, following a terrorist attack near Pahalgam in Kashmir.

On April 22, gunmen attacked tourists near Baisaran Meadow, a popular tourist spot in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, resulting in the deaths of 26 people, including a Nepalese national. The attack is considered one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans.

In response to the recent violence, India has revoked all categories of visas issued to Pakistani citizens, except for long-term, diplomatic, and official visas, effective from April 27. Medical visas for Pakistani nationals will remain valid only until April 29.

Further tightening its security posture, India’s Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan held a video conference with state chief secretaries, instructing them to take necessary actions. Following this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducted telephonic consultations with state chief ministers, directing them to identify and deport Pakistani nationals currently residing in India as part of an intensified security and immigration policy shift.
