Qatar has issued a strong condemnation of the Iranian missile strike on the Al-Udeid Air Base, calling it a “flagrant violation” of the country’s sovereignty, airspace, and international law, amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

In a sharply worded statement, Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Qatari Prime Minister and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the attack by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was in clear breach of the United Nations Charter. He affirmed that Qatar reserves the right to respond in accordance with international law.

“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. This is a flagrant violation of our sovereignty and airspace. We reserve the right to respond proportionately to this aggression,” Al Ansari said in a post on X.

He added that Qatari air defences successfully intercepted the incoming missiles and confirmed there were no injuries or casualties, as the base had been evacuated earlier due to heightened regional tensions. A detailed statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Defence is expected soon.

Al Ansari warned that continued military escalation could have dire implications for regional and global stability. “The continuation of such escalatory actions will only endanger international peace and security. We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.

Qatar also reiterated its longstanding position against regional escalation, emphasizing the need for good neighbourly relations and peaceful resolution of disputes. “We were among the first to warn against the dangers of Israeli escalation. The only way forward is through diplomacy, not confrontation,” the statement read.

The Qatari Ministry of Defence confirmed the successful interception and said the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to confront any threats. “Thanks to the vigilance of our forces and timely precautionary measures, no deaths or injuries occurred,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry of Interior also assured the public that the internal security situation remains stable and urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information. “Life continues normally, and all necessary measures are in place to protect the public,” it noted.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Qatar confirmed that there is no cause for concern. “The security situation is stable. The Embassy will function normally, and Indian nationals are advised to follow guidance from local authorities,” it posted on X.

The missile attack on Al-Udeid Base — the largest US military installation in the region — follows Iran’s retaliatory move against the United States, which carried out airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites, including Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow, on Sunday.
