Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday took part in a BRICS virtual summit chaired by Brazil, with discussions centered on strengthening cooperation in trade, finance, investment, and economic stability amid global challenges, the Russian Embassy in India said.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the meeting. In his address, he emphasized that BRICS must work to stabilize the international economy, mitigate the impact of ongoing conflicts on the Global South, and actively support reforming multilateral institutions.
Jaishankar stressed the importance of building resilient supply chains, democratizing manufacturing, and promoting production across diverse geographies to reduce vulnerabilities. “Fair, transparent, and inclusive economic practices are imperative to ensure stability and relieve anxieties in times of uncertainty,” he noted.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in a post on X, highlighted that the summit focused on advancing a more “just, balanced, and inclusive international order” capable of addressing the needs of the Global South. He underlined BRICS’ commitment to peace, multilateralism, and collective solutions for global challenges.
