Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Ghana on July 2–3, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the West African nation in three decades. Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Manish Gupta, underscored the significance of the trip, calling it a “historic moment” in India-Ghana relations.

The visit will kick off Modi’s five-nation tour, with Ghana as the first stop. During the visit, PM Modi will deliver a keynote address to the Ghanaian Parliament—the first by an Indian leader—highlighting India’s growing engagement with Africa.

“This is a deeply rooted bilateral relationship with a rich historical legacy,” said Gupta. “The visit marks a new chapter in India-Ghana ties.”

Modi will be received with full ceremonial honours and will engage in one-on-one talks with Ghanaian President John Mahama, followed by delegation-level discussions. A state dinner will also be hosted in his honour. His itinerary includes paying tribute at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and engaging with the Indian diaspora in Ghana.

The Indian envoy noted that India’s partnership with Ghana spans both public and private sectors. “India has invested nearly $2 billion through private businesses in Ghana, with another $1 billion through grants and concessional credit lines,” Gupta said. Signature projects include infrastructure developments like the Jubilee House, Ghana’s presidential palace.

The visit is expected to strengthen cooperation in areas such as energy, defence, development, and economic growth, while also deepening India’s ties with African regional organisations like ECOWAS and the African Union.

After Ghana, PM Modi will travel to Argentina, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Namibia. In Brazil, he will attend the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 5–6.
