Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian diaspora in Tokyo for their warm reception, saying he was “deeply touched by the warmth and affection” shown upon his arrival in Japan.

In a post on X, PM Modi lauded the Indian community for their efforts in preserving cultural heritage while also contributing significantly to Japanese society.

“Deeply touched by the warmth and affection of the Indian community here in Tokyo. Their commitment to preserving our cultural roots while contributing meaningfully to Japanese society is truly commendable,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister, who arrived in Tokyo on Friday morning, was greeted with a vibrant cultural welcome featuring Rajasthani folk songs and classical dance performances such as Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Odissi, presented by Japanese artists inspired by Indian traditions.

Artists described performing for PM Modi as a “gold medal moment,” while the Prime Minister also interacted warmly with members of the Indian diaspora, who chanted “Bharat Mata ki Jai” during the welcome.

Looking ahead, PM Modi announced he would soon be engaging with leading Japanese business figures to strengthen economic cooperation.

“In a few hours from now, I will be interacting with a group of business leaders with a focus on adding vigour to India-Japan trade and investment ties,” he said.

This is PM Modi’s first standalone visit to Japan in nearly seven years, undertaken at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The leaders will hold talks during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, reviewing progress in multiple areas and discussing regional and global challenges of shared concern.

Following his engagements in Japan, PM Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1 to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
