Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at Palam Airport in Delhi on Friday, concluding his visit to France and the United States. During his trip, PM Modi co-chaired an AI summit in France and held a significant meeting with President Donald Trump in the US, marking their first interaction since Trump began his second term as the 47th US President in January 2025.

PM Modi met President Trump at the White House on Thursday, where the two leaders shared a warm embrace. Trump expressed that the US-India relationship is marked by “great unity and great friendship,” emphasizing the importance of remaining united as nations. He also noted that the ties between both countries would continue to strengthen.

In his remarks, PM Modi expressed his pleasure in reconnecting with President Trump at the White House for his second term and conveyed his confidence in advancing the India-US strategic partnership with continued trust and excitement. He also shared that the people of India had granted him a third consecutive term as Prime Minister—an achievement that hasn’t occurred in the country for 60 years.

This marked PM Modi’s first visit to the US following Trump’s inauguration, with the Indian Prime Minister among the first global leaders to meet the newly re-elected president. The visit came just weeks after the beginning of Trump’s second term.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri provided an overview of the Prime Minister’s visit, mentioning that PM Modi held discussions with prominent figures, including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Misri highlighted that the four-hour meeting at the White House covered a broad spectrum of topics, such as strategic and security cooperation, defense, trade, economic engagement, technology, energy security, and global and regional concerns.

“The Prime Minister concluded a very substantive and productive visit to the US, underlining the priority both leaders place on the India-US relationship,” Misri said during a press briefing. “The discussions spanned the full range of the relationship, including defense, trade, and regional security, and even extended to people-to-people connections.”

Before heading to the US, PM Modi was in France from February 10-12, where he participated in several events focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), commerce, energy, and cultural exchanges. One of the highlights of his visit to France was co-chairing the AI Action Summit, which brought together world leaders and top tech CEOs.

In France, PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron visited Marseille, where they toured the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, of which India is a key partner. The Prime Minister also paid his respects to Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the World Wars at the Mazargues War Cemetery.

Additionally, PM Modi and President Macron visited the control room of CMA-CGM, a global leader in shipping and logistics, and jointly inaugurated the Indian Consulate in Marseille. Macron bid farewell to PM Modi at Marseille Airport as he departed for the US, concluding the French leg of his visit.
