Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his visit to China on Monday after participating in the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, where he engaged with global leaders and underlined India’s stance on key international issues.
In a post on X, PM Modi described the visit as “productive”, noting, “Concluding a productive visit to China, where I attended the SCO Summit and interacted with various world leaders. Also emphasised India’s stand on key global issues. Thankful to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people for the successful organisation of this Summit.”
During the summit, PM Modi urged decisive global action against terrorism, terror financing, and radicalisation, citing the recent Pahalgam terror attack as a reminder of the urgent need for accountability. He called on the SCO to hold perpetrators and supporters of cross-border terrorism responsible.
The summit also saw extensive deliberations on the SCO Development Strategy, reform of global governance, counter-terrorism, peace and security, sustainable development, and economic cooperation. PM Modi outlined India’s vision under three pillars — Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity — to deepen cooperation within the SCO framework.
On the sidelines, PM Modi held key bilateral meetings. With Russian President Vladimir Putin, he reaffirmed that India-Russia cooperation remains vital for global peace and stability. In talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, both leaders welcomed the steady progress in ties since their last meeting in October 2024 and agreed that India and China must act as development partners, not rivals. They stressed the need for stable relations built on mutual respect, mutual interests, and sensitivity.
PM Modi also interacted with leaders from Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Eurasia, including those from the Maldives, Nepal, Laos, Vietnam, Armenia, and Turkmenistan, underscoring India’s commitment to expanding partnerships across diverse sectors.
The China visit followed Modi’s two-day trip to Japan, where he attended the India-Japan Annual Summit in Tokyo. Reflecting on that visit, he lauded the “productive outcomes” and expressed confidence that India-Japan relations would reach new heights in the coming years.
