Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with a grand and emotional welcome by the Indian community upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro for a four-day visit to Brazil, where he will participate in the 17th BRICS Leaders’ Summit and undertake a State Visit.
Members of the Indian diaspora celebrated his arrival with vibrant cultural performances, including traditional dances and folk songs. A powerful dance themed on Operation Sindoor with the patriotic slogan “Yeh desh nahi mitne dunga” resonated through the venue, reflecting deep national pride.
Adding a local flavour, a Brazilian music group also performed devotional Indian music, underscoring the cultural and spiritual bridge between the two nations.
PM Modi’s visit to Brazil includes participation in the BRICS Summit (July 6–7), where he will engage with global leaders on pressing international issues such as peace and security, climate change, responsible use of AI, global health, multilateral reforms, and economic cooperation. Several bilateral meetings are expected on the sidelines of the summit.
Following the summit in Rio, the Prime Minister will head to Brasília for bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Discussions will focus on strengthening the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership across diverse sectors like trade, defence, space, energy, agriculture, health, technology, and people-to-people connections.
Members of the Indian diaspora in Brazil expressed deep excitement over PM Modi’s visit.
“We feel honoured and privileged to welcome our Prime Minister,” said Vijay Solanki, a long-time resident of Brazil originally from Gujarat. Another diaspora member, Pooja, added, “It’s a proud moment to meet him here in Brazil.”
PM Modi arrived in Brazil after concluding a productive visit to Argentina, where he held talks with President Javier Milei. His ongoing five-nation tour, which began in Ghana, also includes Trinidad and Tobago and will conclude with a visit to Namibia on July 9, where he will address the country’s Parliament.
