PM Modi, Finland President Stubb Discuss Ukraine Crisis, Trade and Technology Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi invited Stubb to visit India soon, with both leaders agreeing to remain in close contact.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with Finland’s President Alexander Stubb on Wednesday, during which the two leaders exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict and reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade and emerging technologies, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

President Stubb shared his assessment of recent high-level discussions in Washington involving European, U.S., and Ukrainian leaders on resolving the Ukraine crisis. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent call for a peaceful resolution and the early restoration of stability in the region.

The leaders also discussed the growing India-Finland partnership, reaffirming their commitment to strengthen cooperation in quantum technologies, 6G, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainability.

According to the MEA, Stubb expressed Finland’s strong support for an early conclusion of a balanced India-EU Free Trade Agreement. He also assured Finland’s backing for the success of the AI Impact Summit, scheduled to be hosted by India in 2026.

Reflecting on the talks, PM Modi posted on X: “Had a good conversation with President Alexander Stubb. Finland is a valued partner in the EU. Discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in trade, technology and sustainability. Also exchanged perspectives on peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”

President Stubb, in his own post, stressed the importance of India’s role in global diplomacy. “Ending the war is in all our interests. India is heard and respected across the South, West and East. We also agreed on the need to further deepen India-EU ties,” he said.
