Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his warm wishes to the people of Mauritius on their National Day and expressed his eagerness to participate in the celebrations. Reflecting on his visit so far, he shared key moments, including the grand welcome he received and his productive meeting with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
During the meeting on Tuesday, both leaders reviewed the longstanding bilateral ties and discussed opportunities to enhance their “special bond.” PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment as a “valued and trusted development partner” to Mauritius, emphasizing their shared goals to promote the interests of the Global South.
PM Modi also attended a banquet hosted by Prime Minister Ramgoolam, where he underscored the unbreakable bond between India and Mauritius. He highlighted their collaboration for the prosperity of both nations and regional peace and security. Recalling his previous visit, PM Modi reiterated the SAGAR vision and praised Mauritius as an important maritime neighbor and partner in the Indian Ocean region.
In a historic move, Prime Minister Ramgoolam presented PM Modi with the prestigious “Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean,” making him the first Indian to receive this honor. This marks the 21st international award bestowed upon PM Modi.
Additionally, PM Modi met with Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House, where he handed over Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to the President and First Lady Brinda Gokhool. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on deepening the historical and people-to-people connections between India and Mauritius.
