Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk held a telephonic conversation on Friday, reaffirming their shared interest in strengthening India–US collaboration in technology, innovation, and emerging sectors.
During the call, PM Modi highlighted India’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the United States, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development, space exploration, and entrepreneurship. The two leaders also followed up on discussions held during their in-person meeting in Washington, DC, earlier this year.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains.”
Their earlier meeting, which took place in February at Blair House in Washington, had focused on enhancing collaboration between Indian and American entities in the fields of space, mobility, AI, and governance. Musk, who also leads the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), attended the meeting with three of his children.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had described the meeting as an important step towards bolstering cooperation in innovation-driven sectors. “Prime Minister and Mr. Musk discussed strengthening collaboration between Indian and US entities in innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development,” the MEA noted.
Modi, in his earlier post following the February meeting, had added, “Had a very good meeting with @elonmusk in Washington DC. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance’.”
The phone call on Friday underscores the mutual interest in driving forward partnerships that can shape the future of technology and sustainable innovation globally.
