Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for New Delhi after successfully wrapping up a “productive and substantive” visit to the United States.
In a post on social media platform X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed the Prime Minister’s departure, stating, “PM @narendramodi emplanes for New Delhi after successfully concluding a productive & substantive visit to the USA.”
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also provided an overview of PM Modi’s US trip. He highlighted that the Prime Minister engaged in discussions with prominent figures, including newly appointed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Misri emphasized that PM Modi’s extensive four-hour meeting with US President Donald Trump covered a broad range of topics, including strategic and security cooperation, defense, trade, economic engagement, technology, energy security, and key regional and global issues.
During a press briefing on Thursday (local time), Misri stated, “The PM just concluded a very substantive and productive visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump. This is the Prime Minister’s first visit to the US after President Trump’s second-term inauguration. This visit underscores the priority both leaders place on the India-US relationship. The PM also met with Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, and Vivek Ramaswamy.”
He added, “The discussions at the White House lasted four hours and covered the entire gamut of the India-US relationship, ranging from strategic and security cooperation to defense, trade, economic engagement, technology, energy security, and people-to-people links, as well as regional and global issues.”
Notably, PM Modi and President Trump shared a warm hug upon the Prime Minister’s arrival at the White House. Trump praised the unity and friendship between the two nations, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration.
In his remarks, PM Modi expressed his delight at meeting President Trump for a second term and expressed confidence that the India-US strategic partnership would continue to advance with the same trust, bond, and enthusiasm.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the significant mandate the people of India had given him, noting that his third consecutive term in office was a historic achievement after 60 years.
This marks PM Modi’s first visit to the US since President Trump’s second presidential term inauguration last month. He is one of the first world leaders to visit the United States following Trump’s swearing-in and was invited to the US within just three weeks of the new administration taking office.
