Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font at Hyderabad House for high-level talks aimed at enhancing India-Chile bilateral relations, the Ministry of External Affairs’ Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed.
Jaiswal stated that PM Modi and President Font would engage in extensive discussions to deepen cooperation between the two nations. In a post on X, he wrote, “PM Narendra Modi warmly receives President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile at Hyderabad House. Both leaders will have extensive discussions on expanding the strong India-Chile bilateral ties.”
Earlier in the day, President Font paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat and signed the visitors’ diary. Reflecting on the moment, he shared on X, “Together with our delegation of ministers and parliamentarians, we paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, the memorial erected in his honor in New Delhi. His legacy reminds us that with India, we not only share common interests and a future of great opportunities for our people but also shared fundamental values.”
Jaiswal also highlighted the tribute in his post, stating, “President Gabriel Boric Font of Chile pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, honoring his lasting message of peace & non-violence. A moment of reflection on the enduring legacy of the Mahatma & shared values that unite India and Chile.”
Speaking about the purpose of his visit, President Font emphasized the importance of strengthening ties. “We are here to reinforce and expand our relations, which is why I am joined by government officials, the National Congress, business leaders, innovators, cultural figures, distinguished professors, and students,” he stated.
He described his visit to India as a “momentous occasion,” underscoring the significance of economic, political, and cultural cooperation between the two countries. “We have a busy schedule ahead, and I will keep you posted!” he added.
President Font also met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the beginning of his state visit, reaffirming Chile’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with India.
At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Boric’s visit from April 1-5 focuses on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, members of parliament, senior officials, business leaders, media representatives, and cultural figures engaged in India-Chile exchanges.
