BJP MP Brij Lal expressed deep satisfaction over Japan’s endorsement of India’s uncompromising stance against terrorism during a recent all-party parliamentary visit to Japan. The delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, met top Japanese officials, including Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, during their visit from May 22 to 24.

Brij Lal described the meetings as “very good” and said he was “happy that the people of Japan have supported India’s fight against terrorism.” He emphasized that India has endured terrorist attacks for nearly four decades but began retaliating decisively after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014.

“We did not respond until 2016. After the Modi government came to power, we launched a surgical strike in 2016 and an airstrike in Balakot in 2019. India made it clear that while we are a peaceful nation, we will destroy terrorist bases and their sponsors if attacked,” Brij Lal said.

He recounted the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, noting that despite overwhelming evidence of Pakistan’s involvement, India refrained from immediate retaliation until a policy shift under the Modi administration. He pointed to the recent Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, as an example of India’s evolved security doctrine.

The Pahalgam attack left 26 dead, prompting the Indian Armed Forces to target terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, killing over 100 militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. In response to Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling and drone attacks, India launched a coordinated counter-offensive, damaging radar systems, communication centres, and airbases. A ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10.

During the Japan visit, the Indian delegation also met with former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Takashi Endo, Chairman of the House Committee on National Security, who both reaffirmed Japan’s continued support for India’s fight against terrorism. The delegation also held discussions with leading Japanese think tanks, where India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism was presented and received with strong approval.

“This is the message we are taking to the world — that India is not only capable but also committed to defeating terrorism in all forms. Under Prime Minister Modi, this is the new India,” Brij Lal asserted.

The all-party delegation’s visit underscores India’s bipartisan unity on national security and aims to build international consensus around India’s proactive and defensive measures in the face of persistent cross-border terrorism.
