Violence intensified in Nepal on Tuesday as protesters set fire to the private residence of Communication and IT Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung in Sunakothi, Lalitpur, amid the ongoing Gen Z-led demonstrations against corruption, The Himalayan Times reported.

Police said the mob first pelted stones at Gurung’s house before escalating the attack into arson. While the blaze was quickly brought under control and no casualties were reported, the incident highlights the deepening unrest gripping the nation.

Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed sorrow over the loss of lives during the protests, urging restraint and dialogue. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives… As a close friend and neighbour, we hope issues will be addressed peacefully,” the MEA said, advising Indian nationals in Nepal to follow local curfew guidelines.

The turmoil has already triggered political fallout. Agriculture Minister Ram Nath Adhikari resigned on Tuesday, denouncing the government’s “authoritarian” crackdown that left 19 dead on Monday. His exit comes a day after Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak stepped down, taking moral responsibility for the deadly clashes.

Authorities have imposed curfews across Kathmandu and other cities as protests enter their second day.
