A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck Myanmar on Sunday at 12:38 PM (IST), according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
- The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km, with coordinates recorded at Latitude 22.14 N and Longitude 95.88 E.
- NCS confirmed the earthquake in a post on X, stating: “EQ of M: 4.6, On: 30/03/2025 12:38:02 IST, Lat: 22.14 N, Long: 95.88 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar.”
The latest quake follows a devastating magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday, killing over 1,600 people and leaving thousands injured.
- Myanmar’s military junta reported 68 missing persons in the Mandalay region, the epicenter of the disaster.
- The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimates the death toll could exceed 10,000.
- The USGS issued a red alert, warning of “high casualties and extensive damage.”
- At least 14 aftershocks have hit Myanmar since Friday’s quake, with magnitudes ranging from 3 to 5.
- A magnitude 6.7 aftershock occurred 10 minutes after the main quake, causing further destruction.
- Tremors were felt across Myanmar, including rural villages caught in the civil war, as well as Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, and parts of China’s Yunnan province.
