Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new Ambassador to Israel, following a 53–46 vote on Wednesday. President Donald Trump immediately signed the commission, officially appointing Huckabee to the diplomatic post.

In a light-hearted remark celebrating the appointment, President Trump said, “He’s going to be fantastic. He’s going to bring home the bacon — even though bacon isn’t too big in Israel,” drawing laughter and applause. He added, “Congratulations to Mike Huckabee.”

Huckabee, a Baptist minister and longtime ally of Israel, expressed his gratitude in a statement, saying, “I am grateful to a great Donald Trump and look forward to serving!”

The appointment was warmly welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called it “a great day for the Israeli-American alliance.”

“Congratulations to my dear friend Mike Huckabee upon being confirmed as the next ambassador of the United States to Israel,” Netanyahu said. “I look forward to working with you to make the unbreakable bond between our two nations even stronger.”

Huckabee is expected to take up his post in the coming days. Known for his staunch support of Israel and experience in both politics and media, he brings a high-profile presence to the role.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with President Trump, Prime Minister Netanyahu pledged to eliminate the trade deficit with the United States “very quickly” and reduce trade barriers. He praised Trump as a “remarkable friend” of Israel who consistently delivers on his commitments.
