The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) extended heartfelt congratulations to all the foreign recipients of the prestigious Padma Awards 2025 for their exceptional contributions across various fields.
“Commemorating excellence and contributions to society. Congratulations to our distinguished friends from abroad on being selected for Padma Awards 2025 by President Droupadi Murmu for their outstanding contributions in various fields,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared in a post on X.
Among this year’s recipients, the late Osamu Suzuki from Japan was posthumously honored with the Padma Vibhushan in the Trade and Industry category.
In the Padma Bhushan category, Vinod Dham from the United States was recognized for his contributions to Science and Engineering.
The Padma Shri honorees include:
- Ajay V. Bhatt and Sethuraman Panchanathan (USA), and Chetan E. Chitnis (France) in the Science and Engineering category.
- Stephen Knapp and Nitin Nohria (USA), and Arvind Sharma (Canada) in the Literature and Education category.
- Jonas Masetti (Brazil) in the Spiritualism category.
- Sheikha Shaikha Ali Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (Kuwait) in the Medicine category.
The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honors and are conferred in three categories:
- Padma Vibhushan: For exceptional and distinguished service.
- Padma Bhushan: For distinguished service of a high order.
- Padma Shri: For distinguished service in any field.
The awards, announced annually on Republic Day, celebrate individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to their fields, including art, social work, public affairs, science, trade, medicine, education, sports, and more.
This year, President Droupadi Murmu approved the list of 139 recipients, including:
- 7 Padma Vibhushan
- 19 Padma Bhushan
- 113 Padma Shri
The list features 23 women awardees, 10 distinguished individuals from the Foreigners, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories, and 13 posthumous honorees.
The awards are typically presented by the President of India in a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhavan in March or April. These accolades not only honor individual excellence but also underscore India’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and recognizing contributions to the nation’s progress and global standing.
