Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, currently on a state visit to India, offered prayers at the historic Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi on Friday. Later in the day, he is scheduled to visit the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, where elaborate arrangements have been made for his reception.
Ramgoolam arrived in Varanasi on Wednesday. On Thursday, he held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, witnessed the signing of MoUs, and addressed a joint press conference.
Ayodhya District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde confirmed preparations for a traditional Indian red-carpet welcome. “The Mauritius PM is coming to Ayodhya. The CM of the state will also be present to welcome him. After a ceremonial reception showcasing Indian culture, he will visit Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple for darshan before departing from Ayodhya airport,” he said.
According to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trustee Anil Mishra, around 30 people will accompany the Mauritian leader. “After offering prayers to Ram Lalla and Ram Darbar, he will visit Kuber Tila and a Shiv temple before partaking in a light meal,” Mishra added.
Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover said tight security measures and administrative arrangements have been completed. “From arrival to departure, every step has been meticulously planned. External forces and special security units are also deployed,” he stated. In preparation, a large-scale cleanliness drive has been carried out across the city.
During his meeting with PM Modi in Delhi, Ramgoolam discussed strengthening cooperation in infrastructure, digital technology, healthcare, maritime security, energy, and other priority areas. The two leaders also reviewed regional and global developments.
This marks Ramgoolam’s first overseas bilateral visit since returning as Mauritius Prime Minister, scheduled from September 9 to 16.
