Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam offered prayers at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya on Friday, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Upon his arrival, Ramgoolam was given a traditional welcome, with the city adorned with posters marking his visit. Earlier in the day, he had also visited the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.

Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said extensive security and administrative measures were taken to ensure a smooth visit. “The itinerary, from the VIP’s arrival at the airport to departure, was meticulously planned minute by minute,” he noted.

Ramgoolam’s temple visits come a day after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, where both leaders reviewed bilateral ties and reaffirmed cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, energy, digital technology, maritime security, and other areas.

The Mauritius PM’s visit highlights the deep civilisational and spiritual bonds between India and Mauritius and follows Modi’s state visit to the island nation in March 2025, when both countries elevated their partnership to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

This is Ramgoolam’s first overseas bilateral trip in his current term, taking place from September 9 to 16 at the invitation of PM Modi. He last visited India in May 2014 for Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
