A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Pakistan in the early hours of Sunday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The tremor occurred at 3:54 AM IST at a depth of 150 kilometres, with its epicentre located at latitude 30.25°N and longitude 69.82°E. The NCS confirmed the seismic event in a post on X, stating: “EQ of M: 5.2, On: 29/06/2025 03:54:02 IST, Lat: 30.25 N, Long: 69.82 E, Depth: 150 Km, Location: Pakistan.”
While no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received, authorities are monitoring the situation closely and further updates are awaited.
Pakistan lies in a high seismic risk zone due to its position along the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. Provinces such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are particularly vulnerable due to their proximity to active fault lines.
Seismic activity is frequent in the region, with some past events resulting in significant loss of life and infrastructure damage. Sunday’s quake, however, appears to have caused no major disruption so far.
