During his official visit to Germany, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with members of the German Bundestag, reiterating India’s unwavering stance against terrorism in all its forms. The interaction underscored the growing strategic cooperation between India and Germany, especially in light of recent regional security developments.

In a post on X, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Germany’s support in strengthening bilateral ties. “A good interaction with members of German Bundestag this evening in Berlin. Appreciate their strong support for continued growth of India-Germany relations. Also discussed with them India’s firm commitment of combatting terrorism in all forms and manifestations,” he wrote.

Earlier, Jaishankar chaired a regional conference of Indian Ambassadors in Europe, where discussions focused on Operation Sindoor and India’s policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism. He emphasized the importance of deeper engagement with Europe during times of global change.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was India’s decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. The operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the elimination of over 100 militants from groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

In retaliation, Pakistan launched cross-border shelling and attempted drone strikes, prompting India to carry out coordinated counter-attacks on strategic assets across 11 Pakistani airbases. A mutual understanding for cessation of hostilities was reached on May 10.

During a recent interview with Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, Jaishankar stressed India’s resolve: “Yes, the ceasefire has put an end to military actions against each other for now, but if the terrorist attacks from Pakistan continue, there will be consequences. The Pakistanis must understand that very well.”

In Copenhagen, Jaishankar also held a productive meeting with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen. The Danish leadership expressed strong support for India’s counterterrorism efforts, further strengthening Indo-Danish ties.

Jaishankar’s visit to Germany is part of his ongoing official tour across the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany from May 19 to 24, aimed at consolidating India’s diplomatic and strategic partnerships in Europe amidst evolving global security dynamics.
