External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Monday held a telephonic conversation with newly appointed South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the Special Strategic Partnership between India and South Korea.
Sharing the update on social media platform X, Jaishankar wrote, “Good to speak with @FMChoHyun of RoK this morning. Conveyed my best wishes for a successful tenure. Discussed deepening of our bilateral cooperation.”
Jaishankar had earlier extended his congratulations to Cho Hyun upon his appointment on July 21, expressing eagerness to work closely to bolster ties in key sectors.
The conversation comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement between the two nations. On July 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a delegation of special envoys from South Korea, marking a decade of the India–South Korea strategic partnership. The discussions underscored cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, along with collaboration in green energy, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and regional security.
That same day, EAM Jaishankar also met the visiting South Korean delegation led by former PM Kim Boo-kyum, where they explored expanding cooperation in economy, defence, maritime security, and people-to-people exchanges.
India and South Korea continue to deepen ties through shared goals in trade, innovation, and regional stability, with both governments committed to strengthening their strategic footprint in the Indo-Pacific region.
