External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held telephonic discussions with key international leaders following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
Jaishankar spoke with Vice President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, and expressed appreciation for the European Union’s unequivocal condemnation of terrorism. In a post on X, he stated, “Good to speak with EU HRVP Kaja Kallas this evening. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcome European Union’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations.”
In a separate call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jaishankar discussed the attack and emphasized the importance of bringing its perpetrators, backers, and planners to justice. “Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers, and planners must be brought to justice,” he posted on X.
Rubio, expressing sorrow over the lives lost in the “horrific terrorist attack,” reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to cooperate with India in counterterrorism efforts. He also encouraged dialogue between India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and promote peace in South Asia, according to a statement from US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
The coordinated international response underscores growing global concern over terrorism and support for India in its efforts to combat such threats.
