Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called out the “double standards” of the global political left, emphasizing how leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, and Argentine President Javier Milei are now spearheading a new global conservative movement.

During her address to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC on Saturday, via video link, Meloni pointed out the growing collaboration among conservative leaders worldwide. She noted the left’s increasing frustration, stating, “With Trump’s victory, their irritation turned into hysteria. Not just because conservatives are winning, but because conservatives are now collaborating globally.”

Meloni voiced her support for Donald Trump’s leadership, pointing to the nervousness of the left in response to the success of conservative leaders. She remarked, “When Bill Clinton and Tony Blair created the global leftist liberal network in the ’90s, they were hailed as statesmen. Today, when Trump, Meloni, Milei, or perhaps Modi speak, they are labeled as threats to democracy.”

She criticized this as a “double standard,” adding, “But we are used to it. And the good news is, people no longer believe their lies.”

The Italian PM stressed that despite the attacks, conservative leaders continue to garner support because they stand for values like freedom, strong nations, secure borders, business preservation, family, life, and the fight against “wokeism.” “We defend our freedom. We love our nations. We want secure borders. We protect our sacred right to faith and free speech. We stand for common sense. Our struggle is hard, but the choice is simple,” she said.

Meloni also made a call for lasting peace in Europe, emphasizing the importance of strengthening security measures. “There is growing awareness in Europe that security is now the top priority. Freedom cannot be defended without the means or courage to do so,” she said. She highlighted Europe’s shared history of overcoming invasions, gaining independence, and toppling dictators, noting that this spirit continues as Ukrainians fight for their freedom against Russian aggression.

Praising Trump’s leadership, Meloni said, “I know that with Donald Trump leading the United States, we will never again see the disaster we witnessed in Afghanistan four years ago. Border security, energy security, economic security, food security, defense, and national security are crucial. If you are not secure, you are not free. And when freedom is at risk, it must be entrusted to the wisest hands.”

In her speech, Meloni also called for standing up against the decline of civilizations, advocating for the future of the world to be left stronger for the coming generations. “I made my choice long ago, and I fight every day to honor it. And I know I’m not alone in this battle— that we are all standing together. Believe me, this makes all the difference.”
