Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, during his official visit to the United Kingdom, addressed over 180 Indian students at an event in London on Saturday. He highlighted the pivotal role of India’s youth in driving the nation’s progress and shaping its future on the global stage.
“India’s biggest strength today is its young students,” Birla remarked, emphasizing their contributions through innovation, competitiveness, and forward-thinking ideas.
Birla pointed to a global trend of declining youth populations in many countries, contrasting it with India’s burgeoning young demographic, whose growing capabilities and confidence are setting the nation apart.
“In the world, India stands out with its students’ mentality, ideas, innovation capacity, and competitiveness. This gives India new energy and strength. While the young population is decreasing in many parts of the world, the capabilities and confidence of India’s youth are increasing. This is our biggest strength,” he said.
He encouraged the students to actively participate in building a progressive India, urging them to align their aspirations with the nation’s growth and development.
The interaction inspired many students in attendance. Awaid Joshi, a University of Law student, expressed his admiration for Birla, noting how the Speaker had impacted his understanding of Indian politics.
“I got a lot of inspiration after meeting and listening to him. He has had a significant impact on increasing access to Indian politics,” Joshi said.
Another student expressed gratitude for the event, saying, “I learned new ideas. I thank the High Commission of India and the Government of India for organizing this event.”
The event, which underscored the government’s commitment to engaging with the Indian diaspora, particularly students abroad, was attended by prominent dignitaries. High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami and Deputy High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh were present, further emphasizing the importance of the interaction.
The event served as a platform for Indian students to connect with one of India’s key leaders, share their perspectives on India’s development, and discuss its positioning in the global arena.
