Congress MP Manish Tewari described the first day of the Indian all-party parliamentary delegation’s visit to Egypt as “very productive, fruitful, and constructive,” following a series of high-level meetings with Egyptian lawmakers and foreign policy experts.

Tewari, a member of Group 7 of the delegation led by NCP leader Supriya Sule, told ANI that the team engaged in extensive discussions with members of the Egyptian Parliament’s Senate and House Foreign Relations Committees. “They were extremely supportive of India’s position,” he said, adding that the Egyptian officials also expressed their condolences for the April 22, 2025, terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation visited the Egyptian Council of Foreign Relations, where they met former Foreign Minister Mohamed Orabi and several senior diplomats. The discussions centered on regional stability and the formation of a global coalition to combat state-sponsored terrorism.

“Our conversations emphasized the urgent need for international unity against terrorism. The day’s engagements were deeply insightful and promising,” Tewari said.

BJP MP Anurag Thakur, also part of the delegation, highlighted Pakistan’s continued involvement in global terrorism. “From 9/11 to 26/11, Pakistan has played a role in most major terror attacks. Cross-border terrorism remains a serious threat not just to India, but to the world,” he said, urging for a united international front based on the African Union’s definition of terrorism.

The delegation also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Cairo’s Al Horreya Garden.

Other members of the delegation include Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V. Muraleedharan, and Syed Akbaruddin. The delegation’s broader goal is to brief international partners on India’s stance following the recent terror attack and to strengthen global cooperation on counter-terrorism initiatives.

The Egypt visit marks the beginning of the delegation’s international outreach to counter global misinformation and underscore India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.
