BJP MP Anurag Thakur, part of an all-party parliamentary delegation to Egypt led by NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to peace while issuing a stern warning that any threat to national security will be met with firm and decisive action.
Speaking to ANI, Thakur declared, “The safety of 140 crore Indians and the security of our borders is our utmost priority. India will take every step necessary to protect its citizens, its unity, and its territorial integrity.”
He emphasized that India is a peace-loving nation that has never acted aggressively, but will not remain silent if provoked: “We never attack anyone. But if someone disturbs the peace, we will act.”
Thakur also delivered a pointed message to countries that use nuclear power as a shield while harboring and sponsoring terrorism, a veiled reference to Pakistan: “Those who hide behind nuclear capabilities and train terror outfits must understand — nuclear threats will not work.”
He further alleged that Pakistan sponsors terrorism and accused its military leadership of openly honoring designated terrorists: “In all our meetings abroad, we told government leaders that the top brass of Pakistan’s army attends the funerals of designated terrorists.”
Calling for a global coalition against terrorism, Thakur said: “Terrorism is a global disease. It must be uprooted through international cooperation.”
The multi-party delegation concluded its official visit to Egypt on Tuesday with a high-level meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. He stressed that such acts are unacceptable and reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with India.
Describing India-Egypt ties as “historic,” Abdelatty called for deepening economic cooperation to match the strong political relationship shared by the two nations.
The Indian delegation included prominent parliamentarians across party lines, including Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan, and Syed Akbaruddin.
The delegation also paid tribute to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Memorial, honoring those who sacrificed their lives during World War I and II.
Earlier, Congress MP Manish Tewari noted that the visit focused on security cooperation and building understanding about state-sponsored terrorism, including interactions with senior Egyptian lawmakers and experts from the Egyptian Council of Foreign Relations.
As part of India’s global diplomatic outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam attack, the delegation aimed to counter international misinformation and reinforce India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
