An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha met top Japanese lawmakers and officials in Tokyo on Friday, reaffirming India’s unified and resolute stance against terrorism. The visit is part of a broader diplomatic mission to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation between India and Japan.

The delegation met Yasuhiro Hanashi, Acting Chairperson of the Research Committee on Counter-terrorism of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and former Minister of Justice. During the meeting, the Indian MPs emphasized India’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards terrorism in all forms, a sentiment echoed by the Japanese side.

“India’s unified and determined stance against terrorism in all its forms was highlighted. Both sides reiterated their zero-tolerance approach to terrorism,” stated the Indian Embassy in Japan.

The delegation also held separate meetings with Japan’s former Defence Minister Minoru Kihara and Shinako Tsuchiya, Director General of the LDP’s International Bureau. India’s Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, accompanied the team during these engagements.

Earlier, the delegation engaged with members of the Diplomatic Corps in Tokyo, reinforcing India’s “unwavering national resolve” against terrorism and calling for global cooperation to eliminate terror networks.

“United in voice, firm in action,” the Embassy said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), summarizing the spirit of India’s outreach in Tokyo.

On Thursday, the delegation also attended the inaugural session of Raisina Tokyo 2025, where regional leaders and experts expressed strong support for India’s fight against terrorism and discussed enhanced Indo-Pacific cooperation.

The high-level delegation includes MPs from various political parties, such as BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Brij Lal, Aparajita Sarangi, and Pradan Baruah; CPI(M) MP John Brittas; TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, and Ambassador Mohan Kumar.

They have also met Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Takashi Endo, Chairman of the House Committee on National Security. Each of these interactions emphasized bilateral alignment on counterterrorism efforts and broader regional stability.

Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held separate dialogues with Japanese officials, including Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takehiro Funakoshi and Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Hiroyuki Namazu. Discussions focused on advancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, enhancing Indo-Pacific cooperation, and furthering shared counterterrorism objectives.

The visit, held from May 22 to 24, projects a national consensus on terrorism from India and underscores growing Indo-Japanese synergy on security and geopolitical strategy.
