Amid escalating border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia, the Embassy of India in Cambodia on Saturday issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid travelling to conflict-affected border areas.
“In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas,” the advisory stated.
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Thailand issued a similar advisory on Friday, cautioning Indian travellers to avoid seven border provinces affected by the unrest. The advisory urged people to follow updates from Thai government sources, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s newsroom.
The advisories come amid intense fighting along the Thailand-Cambodia border, with reports indicating that over 100,000 people have been displaced in just two days, according to CNN.
The century-old territorial dispute between the two nations has flared up again, prompting both countries to seek intervention from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The UNSC has convened an emergency meeting to address the situation.
While Thailand alleges Cambodia deployed drones for surveillance over Thai troops, Cambodia accuses Thailand of violating prior border agreements and initiating the attacks.
As the situation remains tense, Indian authorities are closely monitoring developments and advising citizens to exercise extreme caution and avoid non-essential travel to the affected areas.
