Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, leading a multi-party parliamentary delegation to Egypt, said the group held a constructive dialogue with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who reaffirmed Egypt’s strong stance against terrorism and commitment to bolstering ties with India in peace, trade, and culture.

During their interactions with local leaders and think tanks in Cairo, Sule expressed deep gratitude to the Egyptian leadership for standing with India during a traumatic phase, referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 civilians.

“This visit comes at a time of deep pain for India. Twenty-six innocent lives were lost in an attack on India’s soul. We are here not just as MPs but as Indians, to share the truth of what happened and to counter the misinformation circulating globally,” Sule said.

She detailed Operation Sindoor, an outreach initiative launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which seven teams of Indian MPs were dispatched to several countries to build global awareness about India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.

“These delegations were sent to friendly nations, and Egypt has shown remarkable solidarity. The Egyptian leadership not only condemned the attack but reassured us of their support in standing firm against terrorism,” Sule stated.

Highlighting the shared civilisational legacy of India and Egypt, Sule noted, “We both host wonders of the ancient world and have rich cultural heritage. Our collaboration must go beyond politics — into economy, peacebuilding, and cultural ties.”

In her remarks, Sule also pointed out India’s historical efforts to foster peaceful ties with Pakistan, referring to former PMs Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, and current PM Narendra Modi inviting neighbours for peace initiatives.

“Governance is about continuity. India has always extended a hand of friendship. But this attack came from our immediate neighbourhood, and it has been a deep betrayal.”

Following their high-level meeting, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed Egypt’s position: “We cannot tolerate any attack on civilians. Our relations with India are historic, and it’s time to match our excellent political ties with deeper trade and economic engagement.”

The Indian delegation includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan, and Syed Akbaruddin.

As part of their official programme, the delegation also paid floral tributes to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Memorial, honoring those who laid down their lives during World War I and II.

The visit is part of a broader diplomatic campaign to engage key partners, present India’s response to cross-border terrorism, and counter disinformation following the April 22 attack.
