Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Begins Five-Day US Visit, to Attend IMF-World Bank Meetings and Engage with Global CEOs

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in San Francisco on Sunday (local time) for a five-day official visit to the United States, scheduled from April 20 to 25. She was warmly received at the San Francisco International Airport by Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Consul General Srikar Reddy Koppula, and Finance Secretary Ajay Seth.

As per the Ministry of Finance, Sitharaman will begin her visit with a two-day stay in San Francisco, where she will deliver a keynote address at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution on the theme “Laying the Foundations of Viksit Bharat 2047.” The address will be followed by a fireside chat and discussions with top executives from global investment firms during a roundtable session.

During her time in San Francisco, she is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with CEOs of major tech companies and will engage with the Indian diaspora at a dedicated community event.

From April 22 to 25, the Finance Minister will be in Washington, D.C., where she will participate in the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank. Her itinerary includes the second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) Meeting, the Development Committee Plenary, the IMF Committee (IMFC) Plenary, and the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable (GSDR).

On the sidelines of these high-level events, Sitharaman will hold bilateral meetings with finance ministers and central bank leaders from several nations including the US, UK, France, Germany, Argentina, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Luxembourg. She will also engage with international institutional leaders such as the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the EU Commissioner for Financial Services, among others.

Following her engagements in the US, Sitharaman will continue her international outreach with her first official visit to Peru from April 26 to 30.
