President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, mirroring his decision during his first term. The move comes as part of a series of executive actions Trump signed in front of thousands of supporters at Capitol One Arena.

The Paris Climate Accord, signed in 2015 by nearly 200 countries, aims to combat climate change by keeping global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius, ideally limiting it to 1.5 degrees. Each nation is responsible for creating its own plan to meet these commitments. However, the agreement is not legally binding. In 2017, Trump initiated the US withdrawal from the accord, a decision reversed by President Joe Biden on his first day in office in 2021.

In addition to the climate accord withdrawal, Trump signed an executive directive aimed at restoring freedom of speech, preventing government censorship, and ending the weaponization of government resources against political opponents.

Trump also signed further executive actions in the Oval Office and later took questions from the press, marking the start of his second term with swift action on several fronts.

During his speech at Capitol One Arena, Trump proudly highlighted the success of his “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement, calling it the most successful political operation in the history of the United States and the world. “MAGA was the most successful political operation and movement in the history of our country and the world. We are not finished yet. We have a long way to go,” Trump declared.

Earlier on Monday, Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, with US Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath. JD Vance was sworn in as the 50th US Vice President prior to Trump’s inauguration. Following the ceremony, Trump proclaimed that the “golden age” of America had begun and called the day “Liberation Day” for the country.
