A stabbing attack at a bus and train station in Haifa, northern Israel, resulted in the death of one man and left four others injured, Al Jazeera reported, citing official statements.
The attack took place on Monday, and according to Israeli police, a security guard and a civilian managed to “neutralize” the suspected attacker at the scene.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service confirmed the death of a man around 70 years old and reported that four other individuals were injured. Among the injured were a man and a woman, both approximately 30 years old, and a 15-year-old boy, who sustained serious injuries.
Authorities identified the attacker as an Israeli citizen from a nearby Arab Druze town who had recently returned to Israel from abroad in May. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, according to Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera also reported that the man killed in the attack was a Palestinian citizen of Israel from a village in northern Israel. The 15-year-old victim is currently in “pretty severe condition” and is being treated in an intensive care unit at a hospital near Haifa.
Images shared on social media depicted emergency personnel providing medical assistance at the scene, with several ambulances present.
The attack occurred amid ongoing tensions and stalled ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas over Gaza. Over the weekend, the initial phase of the ceasefire deal ended, and on Sunday, Israel blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza following disagreements with Hamas on extending the ceasefire.
