As China and India mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to working with New Delhi from a strategic and long-term perspective. The remarks were made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a regular press briefing on Tuesday.
Guo highlighted that both nations are ancient civilizations, major developing economies, and crucial members of the Global South, making cooperation essential for mutual success. He emphasized that a “cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant” is the right path forward, benefiting both countries and their people.
“Under the strategic guidance of our leaders, China stands ready to enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and ensure peace in border areas, pushing China-India relations onto a stable and positive track,” Guo stated.
The remarks were also echoed by China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, who shared them on social media platform X. At a special event titled “Riding the East Wind, Setting Sail Anew and Opening a New Chapter in China-India Relations,” Xu expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties.
Xu also acknowledged Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s presence at the event, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged congratulatory messages, acknowledging the importance of stable and predictable relations. Modi noted that their recent meeting in Kazan helped set a roadmap for improving ties, while Xi emphasized peaceful coexistence, mutual trust, and shared development.
Reflecting on the historical trajectory of China-India relations, Xu Feihong noted, “Despite ups and downs, our relations have always surged forward like the Yangtze and the Ganges. Learning from the past will guide us toward a stronger future.”
The 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties serves as a pivotal moment for both nations to reassess and build a more stable and cooperative partnership moving forward.
